Black History Month: African-American head coaches in L.A.
By Evan Lovett
Walt Hazzard
UCLA Basketball, 1985 -1988
Hazzard returned to the helm at the same Pauley Pavilion where he dominated as a player in the early 1960’s.
He had moderate success at UCLA, but left after accumulating a 77-47 record in his four seasons at the school, which was accustomed to winning titles and dominating.
His squads made one NCAA tournament appearance and won one NIT Championship (1984-1985).
