Dodgers rumors indicate that Minnesota wanted to try and force the Dodgers’ hands.

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently ended their search for their starting second baseman last week after swapping for Tampa Bay’s Logan Forsythe.

This meant that Los Angeles had officially moved on from a potential trade with the Minnesota Twins for Brian Dozier.

It was widely reported that trade fell through after the Dodgers and Twins reached a deadlock on the prospect package for Dozier.

Now it’s been revealed by the Dodgers just how costly Dozier would have been.

Not only that, but how deep Minnesota wanted them to go.

The Twins are said to have wanted three top-5 prospects for Dozier that at one point included Jose De Leon, Yadier Alvarez, and Willie Calhoun.

De Leon’s inclusion in the package is no surprise, given how open the Dodgers were on parting ways with the 24-year-old right-hander for a second baseman.

De Leon was ultimately traded to Tampa Bay in the deal for Forsythe.

Calhoun, the Dodgers’ top second base prospect, was also one player the team was willing to trade away for an established replacement.

Alvarez, however, was recently confirmed by the team to be one of the two “untouchables” in its pitching prospect pool – the other being RHP Walker Buehler.

The Twins’ continued insistence on acquiring Alvarez then helps explains why the deal was never sealed.

Both Alvarez, 20, and Buehler, 22, are not projected to make their debut in a Dodgers uniform until at least 2018.

Alvarez will begin the 2017 season in Single-A baseball with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

While Buehler, who is on a strict innings-limit, is not expected to pitch past Double-A baseball this season.
