Chase Utley resigns with Dodgers on one year deal
Chase Utley remains with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one year deal.
Chase Utley will stay with Los Angeles as he was their full time second baseman in 2016. He has been in the league four fourteen years. Utley brings veteran experience and depth to the club. He also adds to the rotation in the lineup.
Expect there to be competition for the second baseman position behind Utley and Forsythe.
He did win a championship with the Philadelphia Phillies. Therefore if he doesn’t earn the starting gig, he can mentor the team. The team wants to get to where he has been and win the World Series just like him. In that case they will have to listen to his stories and advice he has for the ball club. Chase Utley would like to win one more I’m sure of it. Well he has one more year.
If the franchise didn’t think Chase Utley had anything left in the tank they wouldn’t have signed him. However they see something in him that us fans and critics don’t see.
According to the LA Times, they re-signed him to a one year deal and the amount is unknown at the time. He brings a lot to the franchise with his experience in the majors.
This is one of the first smart moves the Dodgers made this off-season. If they expect to make it to the NL Championship series and World Series they need to resign all their players.
There is nothing wrong with looking for players off the waiver wire or trading for others. However they need to sign their experienced and young star players first.
Chase Utley will compete for the second baseman position and if he doesn’t make it he will still be in the rotation, but play a different role for the team. It will be similar to basketball and coming off the bench. This is what LA needs in the post-season when they get to the bottom of the lineup on offense.
Whether Chase Utley plays a bigger or smaller role he will influence the team most definitely.

In conclusion, he has the same goal in mind to be a team player and win the World Series with the LA Dodgers.
