Dodgers trade Vidal Nuño to Orioles for minor-league arm

Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to solidify their already impressive young pitching depth.
On Sunday, the club officially announced its acquisition of right-handed pitcher Ryan Moseley from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for veteran lefty Vidal Nuño.
The team originally acquired Nuño early this off-season when it sent away veteran catcher Carlos Ruiz to the Seattle Mariners.
Nuño reported to the Dodgers’ spring training camp last week with the rest of the pitching staff, expressing his enthusiasm at getting to be a part of the team.
He was signed to a 1-year, $1.25M deal this January to avoid arbitration.
The move is also believed to have been completed to create space for outfielder Franklin Gutierrez on the 40-man roster.
Gutierrez, 33, was recently signed by the team on a 1-year, $2.6M contract. He is expected to be among those competing for a role in the Dodgers’ already crowded outfield.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ newest pitching prospect, Moseley, was drafted by the Orioles in the eighth round of last year’s draft.
He was previously drafted out of high school in the 38th round of the 2013 MLB draft by then Tampa Bay Rays GM and current Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman.
Moseley did not sign, choosing to attend Texas Tech University instead.
After spending part of the season with the school, the 22-year-old made his professional baseball debut later in the year at High-A level baseball, posting an ERA of 3.20 through 19 ⅔ innings as a reliever.
According to Baseball America, Moseley is projected to be potentially enjoy a “power-reliever future”.
