Confidence in trade value of veterans

One thing that the DeMarcus Cousins trade did show us is that being a veteran matters. The Pelicans could have pulled a fast one on the Kings if what Sacramento received ends up being just as bad, if not worse.

But that’s not New Orleans’ problem anymore.

The Lakers should look at the chance to make a deal before the deadline in a similar manner. Trying to get rid of proven veterans who still have talent, value, and playing potential but also keeping in mind that they have to benefit from the trade too.

Sacramento has been reported as not being done trading, either. According to a report from NBC Sports, the Kings are also shopping Darren Collison, Arron Afflalo, and Ben McLemore.

Collison is a point guard that could give D’Angelo Russell some help at the position. Both Afflalo and McLemore are listed as shooting guards and could be involved in a swap for Lou Williams, who plays the same position.

Right now, the Lakers have to come to terms with the fact that they’re not likely to land a major star just yet. They need to develop what they’ve got first, but minor trades that allow your veterans to finish elsewhere is just as important.
