Lakers name Magic Johnson President of Basketball Operations

Magic Johnson officially has a position with the Lakers now.

Magic Johnson has been named President of Basketball Operations for the Lakers.

The Lakers have fired their General Manager Mitch Kupchak and former EVP of Basketball Operations Jim Buss has been relieved of his duties.

Magic Johnson will be calling the shots. He will be taking over both positions until the find someone to be general manager. Of course Magic Johnson is responsible for those duties right now.

The Lakers and Magic will find someone to be the new general manger.

LA has work to do, yet this move gives everyone from the front office to fans hope for the future.

As the President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson will have plenty of say in the future moves the Lakers will do if they do any. Also, for fans this comes as good news.

Why does this come as good news you ask?

Well for one Magic Johnson loves the young core of the Lakers and wants to work with and mentor them. Now he can for sure do that and he did say the Lakers are a “superstar away” from competing in the Western Conference.

Now with him having a say in all trades and signings we will see a lot of work before the trade deadline. We will also see a lot of action in the off-season.

Now the question(s) that remain are what is Magic Johnson going to do next for the team? Will he keep the young core that he likes and trade veterans and bench players to prepare for the future?
