Lakers rumors: 3 reasons L.A. won at the 2017 trade deadline

Holding on to the their young core
In a hard-to-swallow hypothetical scenario, the Lakers could’ve gotten DeMarcus Cousins. The problem with that is the request Sacramento made for rookie Brandon Ingram.
Los Angeles refused to put him on the table, which gave the Kings an opportunity to look elsewhere and eventually swap with New Orleans. It was one of the best moves the front office has generally made in years.
It is easy to give up on players when they aren’t the star they should be just yet, but with Ingram there’s a lot to believe in. Alongside D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, and the others in the young core, the former Duke phenom can still develop his game.
Time will ultimately tell us what his career will pan out to be, but it should show sooner rather than later.
By not letting the Kings ship Cousins to Los Angeles, the team also made a statement that they don’t plan on giving up on the other young guys either.
They’re here to stay, and they’re here to make something special happen.
