Dwight King is heading for his new home in Montreal.

On trade deadline day the Los Angeles Kings have already made a move trading forward Dwight King to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional fourth round draft pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

King was due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

This year, King has 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points, a big power forward his style of play  is synonymous with the Kings gritty grind it out style of play.  The Canadiens were likely trying to add depth and muscle for a playoff run and wanted King’s playoff experience, having played 69 playoff games in his career.

King was part of both the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup wins for the Kings. In 2012, King scored 5 goals including two game winners on their improbable run to the title.  With the trade their are only ten players left from both those Cup runs.

With the move the Kings now will look to find someone to boost their offense that only managed one goal in 2-1 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames that the Kings needed to beat to stay on pace with in the Wild Card standings.

The player attached to the Kings this morning was veteran forward Jerome Iginla, who at 39 years old is looking to play on a contender for one more cup run.

It remains to be seen his age and loss of foot speed really is an upgrade in scoring for the Kings.
