The Question Mark

McCarthy has thrown a total of 63 innings in his two seasons with the Dodgers. Halfway through the four-year, $48 million deal, that is not quite the return that the organization envisioned.

Until that point, McCarthy was a reliable innings-eater with above-average ‘stuff,’ owning a 1.29 career WHIP. But a case of “the yips” last season inhibited his strike-throwing ability, as did a recurring hip injury.

A consistent McCarthy would provide above-slot value, as his vast repertoire includes a heavy sinker, a cutter a curveball and a change-up to complement his four-seam fastball.

This is his spot to lose, and so far in the spring he has shown flashes of dominance, but also a propensity to get hit.
