The latest NFL free agency 2017 news focuses in on how the Rams were smart to avoid taking chances with Tony Romo.

There are plenty of Rams rumors circulating as free agency is upon us. Tony Romo who is a quarterback on the Dallas Cowboys roster was in the mix to be traded to sign with the Rams.

Yes the Rams already have Goff, but they thought about signing Romo as well. If he had signed with them he wouldn’t have started unless he earned the starting role. Most likely he would be mentoring Jared Goff from the bench.

Also, if he did get the starting role that could be the turning point, to help Goff learn from the bench on what the coaches want him to do on the field if he doesn’t already know.

The Rams made a smart move not signing Tony Romo since they drafted Goff number one overall in 2016 as their franchise quarterback. If they were to sign Romo they would have to converse with him asking if he’d be willing to mentor Goff from the bench.

If he said yes, he would have probably headed to LA.

Yes he would have brought his veteran presence to LA but the Rams already have their young future quarterback. Also, there isn’t many receivers he can throw to who can catch the ball. Before the Rams can find another quarterback or develop their own they need their skill players to improve their skills.

Not only were the Rams smart not to sign Romo, but he himself was smart to not sign. Their line is decent but can be better.
