Apparently, the Rams are trying to make some noise in NFL free agency 2017 at corner.

It was rather recently when the Los Angeles Rams decided to place the franchise tag on defensive star Trumaine Johnson. The same thing happened at this time last year, with the decision remaining an interesting one.

According to a report from NBC Sports, the conversation about Johnson isn’t going away quietly.

Per the report:

"It’s probably fair to say that the Rams won’t be looking at that kind of return in any deal involving Johnson now that he’s signed the tender. It’s also probably fair to say that Johnson still has leverage over a possible destination as any team acquiring him would likely want to sign him to a contract that runs beyond the one-year, $16.7 million deal that came with the franchise tag."

The fact that the Rams are talking with more than just one team speaks for itself. Should they get rid of Johnson, it would mean that the Rams want to make a move that’ll fit best in the incoming defense.

Additionally, the Rams are not the only Los Angeles team making moves. Earlier today, the Chargers made the announcement that they’ll be parting ways with Brandon Flowers.

Unlike Flowers, Johnson would give teams decent coverage at his position.

With Wade Phillips now running the show on the defensive side of the ball, as pointed out in the NBC Sports story, the Rams have a chance to start over. Their first major hurdle was firing Jeff Fisher and putting faith in Jared Goff — now they have a chance to come full circle.

It’s important to keep in mind that the team could end up keeping Johnson, as nothing yet confirms a trade.
