Yasiel Puig’s Los Angeles home gets robbed
By Mary Coyne
Dodger outfielder Yasiel Puig joins the growing list of celebrities who have been robbed in Los Angeles this year.
TMZ reports thieves broke into his home and made off with 500K worth of jewelry including three luxury Rolex watches.
Puig, the Dodger right fielder from Cuba, is currently in Arizona with the team for spring training. TMZ reports Puig has a relative living at him home while he is away but the relative was not in the house at the time of the robbery.
Puig, who according to Spotrac is set to earn a base salary of $6,500,000 this season, has never been shy about showing off his jewelry. Unfortunately, the thieves may have taken notice. He joins ex-Laker Derek Fisher and Alanis Morissette on a growing list of celebrities who have been robbed.
As we saw with the Kim Kardashian case, social media can play a big part in helping criminals pick and choose their victims. Puig has 309k followers on Twitter and 659K on Instagram.
Yasiel Puig joined the Dodgers in 2013 and proceeded to have a monster rookie season. His production declined in the following seasons however, and after a demotion to the minors last year looks to prove himself one again to the organization. And the Dodgers seem to be willing to give him the chance.
Currently, he has four hits in 14 spring at-bats with a .929 OPS. On Sunday he hit his first home run of the season, followed by an epic bat flip.
He said after the game,
"“What I really want to focus on is what sent me to triple A — be a better teammate, get here on time, follow the rules,” Puig said. “Everything else is up to God.”"
So far there have been no arrests made in connection with the robbery.
