Jarome Iginla saves Kings in OT
By Jamaal Artis
Jarome Iginla helped get the Kings over the edge.
With few games left in the season the margin for error for the Los Angeles Kings is getting smaller and smaller. Trailing the St. Louis Blues for the last wild card spot, the Kings face a difficult climb.
Twice the Kings found themselves trailing by one and twice they tied the game on the power play.
Then, with no winner after regulation, the Kings had another power play chance in overtime that Jarome Iginla converted for the 3-2 game winner.
Acquired at the deadline, Iginla was the Kings’ best player in the ice as he had a hand in all three Kings goals.
Down 1-0 in the second period, Iginla scored on a Kings power play after taking a rebound off of Predators goalie Pekke Rinne to tie up the game.
The Kings sloppy play put them down 2-1 after just a minute and a half of the third period.
Suddenly, another power play opportunity saw the Kings tie the game at 2. This came when Marian Gaborik scored on a rebound when Iginla screened Rinne.
The Kings will need to clean up some of their sloppy play both of the goals given up were due to turnovers in their own zone. Thankfully, a few times the Kings were fortunate to keep the score tied but were saved by goalie Jonathan Quick.
Quick had 21 saves including a point blank one after the Predators scored their second goal.
By winning the Kings earned two crucial points and remain one point behind the Blues in the wild card standings. It doesn’t get any easier for the Kings, as they face the league points leading Washington Capitals on Saturday.
