NFL Free Agency 2017: Lance Kendricks signs with Packers
By Keith Rivas
In one of the latest moves of NFL free agency 2017, former Rams tight end Lance Kendricks joined Green Bay.
It’s that time of year where football free agents have a chance to play somewhere else. Whether it’s because of contract disputes or another reason, it’s still a crazy time for sports fans.
On Saturday, Green Bay made another move for a tight end a day after getting Martellus Bennett. Previously with New England, Bennett will hope to make the Packers that much more dangerous.
As for Kendricks, he was cut by the Rams earlier in the week. He joins fellow former Rams tight end Jared Cook in Lambeau after Aaron Rodgers and company came just short of a Super Bowl appearance.
Per a report from the Turf Show Times:
"Kendricks will enjoy a homecoming as he was born and actually played his college football in Wisconsin. An under-achiever as a 2nd round pick, Kendricks should add good depth and another option that can be moved around for Aaron Rodgers to find. This is the second Rams tight end the Packers have poached in back-to-back years."
With the Rams clearly moving on, the question becomes how it’ll impact Jared Goff. Los Angeles has added Robert Woods at wide receiver, but offense is about more than just one person.
Goff will be entering his second year in the league after being taken first overall last year. Kendricks’ homecoming back to the state of Milwaukee could mean we see a lot more of the Packers.
They refused to die before being pummeled by Atlanta in the NFC title game. Now that one of the best ever at quarterback has another weapon in his arsenal, the rest of the league should be on notice.
