USC First Four: 3 players to watch
By Evan Lovett
Jordan McLaughlin
McLaughlin, a Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention in 2015-16, averaged 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists.
`The 6’1″ junior is the player with the ball in his hands most often for the Trojans and is the engine for their high-powered offense.
His numbers this season showed modest improvement, as he increased his assists to 5.5 per game, good for second in the conference while once again being named to the all-conference team.
Twice during the season, McLaughlin was named Pac-12 player of the week. He shot 46% from the floor and 81% from the free throw line.
The savvy distributor is the best decision-maker on the floor, and the voice of reason when things get harried for the Trojans offense.
Additionally, he averages nearly two steals per game on defense and will be responsible for ensuring that Providence point guard Kyron Cartwright stays under his season average of nearly seven assists per game.
As McLaughlin goes, the Trojans go – they need him to perform to his all-conference level for the Trojans to advance.
