Lakers: Constructing the Franchise’s Mount Rushmore
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are easily one of, if not the, most storied franchises in all of basketball. Selecting only four players for the franchise’s Mount Rushmore is tough.
The Boston Celtics are perhaps the only organization that can make a case for being a more storied NBA franchise than the Lakers. With two more championships, the Celtics have the slight upper-hand in terms of their trophy case.
However, the Lakers are easily the most polarizing team in the entirety of the league. The huge market that LA is, any star that has played in purple and gold has become a superstar. Even in this dry spell the team is one of the most discussed teams in all of the league.
I mean, the team is the definition of being a winner, they are the Yankees, Patriots, and Canadiens all in one. Heck, the franchise has only missed the postseason nine times, four of which have occurred in their current dry spell.
That is why it is a tough task to select the franchise’s Mount Rushmore – the four guys that are the faces of the franchise. There has been so many spectacular players in this organization, there is several that would easily be the key face of most other franchises.
So, let’s take a crack at narrowing down the historical Los Angeles Lakers into their four best players of all time. It may be a tough task, but here at LA Sports Hub we are up for it.
