2017 NBA Draft: If not Lonzo Ball – Three Players the Lakers should Draft
By Jason Reed
Lonzo Ball has been the focal point of the Lakers and the 2017 NBA Draft. However, if the Lakers can’t move up to select Ball, who should they instead draft?
Lonzo ball just seems like he is destined to be a Los Angeles Laker after the 2017 NBA Draft. The southern California kid played in Chino Hills, goes to college in LA, and has had his infamous father come out and request outlandish things such as a $1 billion shoe deal.
This has almost made Lakers fans assume that come next season they will see Lonzo Ball in purple and gold gracing the Lakers backcourt with D’Angelo Russell. The Lonzo Ball-Lakers relationships seems as perfect as any that we have ever had.
However, it seems to be that people are not imaging the Lakers not getting Lonzo Ball. That this is destined to happen, when it reality, it may be a long shot.
First off, the Lakers can only get their pick back from the 76ers if it is in the top three of the NBA Draft lottery. The Lakers seemingly have entered tank mode with their trade of Lou Williams, and rightfully so as they hold the second-worst record in the NBA.
This does give them a fairly good chance of getting a top-three pick, but as we have seen with the draft lottery, anything can happen. The Lakers could get as high as a fourth pick and have to relinquish it to the 76ers.
That would leave them with just the Houston Rockets pick, which will be in the high twenties. The Lakers have a better chance of taking this pick, with a young player, and perhaps dealing it for a pick around the middle of the round.
Regardless what happens, if it is not Lonzo Ball, who should the Lakers select in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft?
