2017 NBA Draft: If not Lonzo Ball – Three Players the Lakers should Draft
By Jason Reed
Josh Hart – Shooting Gaurd
Despite Draft Express predicting that the Lakers will select Semi Ojeleye with the 28th overall pick, I think a better fit would be Villanova shooting Gaurd Josh Hart. Of course, Draft Express’ prediction is on the basis that the Lakers will get the second pick and select Lonzo Ball. Selecting ball would eliminate the need for another backcourt option.
However, if the Lakers do not get a top three pick, and stay at 28th overall, they should undoubtedly select Josh Hart if they can. Hart is ranked as the 15th best option by CBS Sports, yet is not predicted to be selected in the second round by Draft Express.
Should Hart fall to the 28th overall selection, the Lakers should not bat an eye in selected the shooting guard. Pairing him up with D’Angelo Russel would be a smart move for the Lakers, and would provide a dynamic, athletic, backcourt.
Hart has put together fairly good numbers at Villanova this season. Averaging 18.7 points,6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game the six-foot-five senior could be an instant starter for the Lakers.
While he may not be great right away, inserting him into the starting line-up and giving him valuable minutes is exactly what the Lakers need. It would continue on their current rebuild, and keep the door open for a superstar that they could potentially sign in the future. Then, Hart would prove to be an extremely productive sixth man.
