Dodgers Rumors: Each Dodgers’ Player Rating in MLB the Show 17
By Evan Lovett
Chris Hatcher – 74
Though a 74 may not seem like a strong rating, it may still be a bit high for a pitcher of Hatcher’s caliber. The former catcher was converted to pitcher due to his arm strength and had clubs envisioning another Kenley Jansen, who was also a catcher in the minor leagues. That said, the experiment is thus far a failure, as Hatcher sported a 5.53 ERA last season and walked 21 batters in 40 2/3 innings.
Though the velocity is tangible – Hatcher’s fastball sits in the high-90s – there is very little movement and he is eminently hittable. Hatcher has a 1.38 WHIP in his career, and there appears to be little improvement this spring, as his ERA is a gaudy 7.27. The Dodgers likely are keeping Hatcher on the roster solely because he is out of minor league options.
The guess here is that Hatcher’s rating will not matter after he implodes and works his way off of the Dodgers roster sometime in May. Thus, a 74 may actually end up being overrated in this case.
