Brandon McCarthy – 74

McCarthy, who beat out Alex Wood for the Dodgers rotation, is ranked accurately with his 74. The 33-year old right-hander has pitched for six clubs in his career, starting 166 games. He is often a fringe starter, but he is also a battler. He sported a 2.89 ERA with the Yankees in 2014 and parlayed that into a four-year, $48 million deal with the Dodgers that has yet to provide dividends for the club.

McCarthy started only 13 games for the Dodgers combined in his first two seasons with the club. Recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2016, he threw five strong starts upon his return and then could not find his groove for the remainder of the year.

Perhaps this is the season that McCarthy justifies his contract, but it is pretty clear that he has already justified his 74 rating. A 4.17 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP and a 57-68 lifetime record are all harbingers of what to expect for the Dodgers this season and are fine data points to justify the 74 ranking on The Show.
