Yasmani Grandal – 82

The next best position player for the Dodgers takes quite the dip, a five rating dip to be exact, with the 82 rated Yasmani Grandal. However, having Grandal be the third best bat on this Dodgers team makes a great amount of sense, as Grandal proved himself to be a slugging stud at the plate this season.

Grandal led all of the catchers with an outstanding 27 long balls in 2016 amounting to 72 runs batted in. We all know that catchers are not ones to hit the home run often, as this is the first time a catcher has slugged 27 home runs since A.J. Pierzynski did back in 2012. The top three batters for the Dodgers slugged a combined 80 home runs, so it makes sense that Grandal is included in that.

However, while I think his 82 rating is right on point, maybe a tad too low, I think that it is disrespectful to Grandal with the other ratings of MLB catchers. Grandal did not even make the top six ratings for catchers, getting beat out by Gary Sanchez of all people.

I know that Yasmani Grandal does not have the best abilities behind the plate compared to his colleagues, but he certainly is not inept either. Grandal posted the sixth best wins above replacement of catchers last season and was an above average fielder.

However, it is what it is. I am sure that Grandal will prove the folks over at MLB the Show wrong. While I think an 82 rating is justified, if his colleagues are going to get inflated overalls, so should he.
