Yasiel Puig – 79

Yasiel Puig makes it a three headed monster of position players that are 79 rated. However, out of all the ratings of these position players, I think Puig’s rating is the most conflicting. Practical wisdom tells me that Puig likely should not be rated this high, but then the Dodger fan inside of me thinks that it is just right on athleticism alone.

Puig has definitely had an interesting career that was capped off with a roller coaster2016. Splitting time between the majors and minors, Puig was a constant discussion among all Dodgers’ fans.

Yasiel Puig only managed to slug in 11 home runs and bring in 45 runs; adding to a .263 batting average. Puig’s stat line definitely does not justify him in having a 79 rating, however, it is hard to ignore his pure talent and that may be what is holding him up.

We cannot deny that Yasiel Puig is a great baseball player, we have seen glimpses of the things that he can do. The problem is that those are just glimpses, and Puig has often struggled with maturity that may have led to his decline.

Practical wisdom says that Puig may be a bit higher than he deserves especially considering the 2016 season that he had. However, because of his sheer athleticism and talent, this 79 rating may prove to be too low in 2017.
