Joc Pederson – 77

Another rating that seems to hit the nail right on the coffin, Dodgers center fielder Joc Pederson comes in 2017 with a 77 rating. His blend of power and great fielding along with his strike outs and struggles against left-handers makes the perfect blend that results in this 77 rating. Here, I think that the folks over at MLB the Show gave Pederson a perfect evaluation.

Joc definitely has pop in his bat, that is no question as the left-handed batter slugged 25 long bombs in 2017. His batting average rose 36 points from .210 to .246, and he struck out 40 fewer times in 74 fewer at-bats. The growth from Pederson is admirable, yet the struggles that have been seen do hold him down to a modest 77 rating.

However, I think that Joc has the most potential of these lower ratings and could see himself in Justin Turner’s shoes in the not too distant future. Pederson has already shown leaps and bounds in his swing, and if he can continue that progression then his stock will only rise.

With the raw power and uppercut swing that Pederson possesses, if he makes contact with the ball more he will obviously be slugging more long bombs. Not only that, Pederson often makes consistent hard contact, making hard contact leads to base hits.

The more Pederson adapts to big league pitching the more hard hit balls we will see, and the more his batting average will rise. Pederson has a ceiling that could make him one of the best center fielders in the game; however, for now, he has to settle with a 77 rating.
