Trayce Thompson – 73

Part of me hates this low of a rating for Trayce Thompson, yet part of me thinks that is completely justified with what Thompson did last season. Thinking back before his injury, I remember Thompson being a huge asset in the Dodgers offense that consistently drove in runs. Yet, when looking back Thompson did not perform the way I have remembered.

Perhaps the delusion was created based on the several walk-offs that Thompson had. Regardless, Thompson was not the menacing threat I remember him being. In 236 at-bats Thompson only managed to hit a .225 mark striking out 66 times. Thompson did, however, manage to slug 13 home runs, showing in a full season of work he can stretch it out to the 25 mark.

While the power numbers certainly are appealing, Thompson was far too inconsistent last season. He had more games with a goose egg in the hit column that he did home runs, and that inconsistency showed in the ratings.

While 73 may be a tad too harsh and he should be perhaps two ratings higher, I understand why the mark was set at 73. With a ceiling that could be as high as Joc Pederson’s, we may see this rating rise in the near future. However, Thompson is going to need to be more consistent if he wants to earn higher than a 73 rating.
