Dodgers Rumors: Each Dodgers’ Player Rating in MLB the Show 17
By Evan Lovett
Andrew Toles – 72
Rounding off the list of Dodgers ratings is outfielder Andrew Toles. Toles is in a weird spot heading into 2017, as he was originally slated to platoon with Yasiel Puig, likely receiving little playing time, and now he may be in line to start in left field. Despite being a potential starter this season, Toles finds himself at the bottom of the pack with a 72 rating.
Toles thrived in his time in the big leagues last season. Being a late season call-up, Toles batted an outstanding .314 in 105 at-bats. I know it is a small sample size, but his combination of speed, contact, power, and decent fielding led toles to have a 1.6 Wins Above Replacement in only 48 games.
Of course, chances are he would flatline as the season progresses, but let’s say he did average those exact statistics throughout the course of a full season. If Toles played in 150 games he would have racked up a 5.0 WAR. This would have made him the fifth best outfielder in all of baseball last season.
While that is unlikely, Toles mix of talents is a deadly one and he seems to be a superstar for the Dodgers in the future. Many will call his small sample size in 2017 a mere fluke, but I would not be surprised to see Toles post around a 3.5 WAR, making him a top 20 outfielder.
I understand having him at a 72 rating because he is so fresh and is yet to prove himself in the long scheme of things, but having him under guys like Enrique Hernandez and Brandon McCarthy is nothing short of absurd.
