Hyun-Jin Ryu – 81

Hyun-Jin Ryu is very difficult to peg, and The Show may have him a little high with the 81 ranking. He has started a grand total of one game since 2014. Prior to that point, he was a very effective pitcher, winning 28 of the 56 games he started with a 3.00 and 3.38 ERA in his two seasons.

Injuries have ravaged his opportunities over the subsequent two seasons, but he appeared strong and healthy in the Spring, showing a renewed fastball and a 0.79 WHIP. Ryu is a good, quality left-hander when he is healthy and definitely has 81 ‘stuff,’ but needs to be healthy for another full season to really warrant this rating.

Until then, we have to file Ryu as a little overrated, if only to regain our confidence in his reliability. If Roberts uses Ryu sparingly, perhaps skipping one out of every six scheduled starts, he will be able to keep the Korean lefty fresh and able to withstand the rigors of a long big league season. If that is the case, an 81 is very realistic.
