In the midst of one of the worst era’s in franchise history, the Lakers are desperate to improve their luck any way they can. Big name free agents have been a constant proposed solution, with the other being finding their star power via the 2017 NBA Draft.
The Lakers are in a weird spot heading into the 2017 NBA Draft, as the team has to tank like they’ve never tanked before. The Philadelphia 76ers owns the Los Angeles Lakers pick, with their only sort of protection being if the pick is within the top three. This, of course, causes the Lakers to tread dangerous waters in attempting to play good basketball.
However, as of right now, the Lakers are a top three lottery team and have a fairly good shot in securing their pick. Of course, anything can happen with the unpredictive nature of the NBA lottery, so Lakers fans may see their team miss out on their next potential star.
However, today we turn to the popular NBA 2K series, using NBA 2K17 to simulate the rest of the season and provide us a mock draft.
In the simulation, the Lakers finished the year with a 1-5 record, giving them the second-worst record behind the Brooklyn Nets. This gave the team a 19.9% chance to land the number one overall selection. Although the team did not land that pick, they did manage to keep their selection.
