2017 NFL Draft: Chargers Seven Round Mock Draft
By Jason Reed
Malik Hooker is the popular consensus for the Chargers first round selection, however, in this mock draft, the Bolts went a different direction in selecting LSU’s Jamal Adams. Hooker and Adams are both phenomenal talents, with many debating on which safety is the more dynamic. In this simulated draft, Hooker was taken third overall by the Chicago Bears, leaving Adams with the Chargers.
The safety position is much needed for the Chargers, as they have lacked that feared defender since Eric Weddle’s departure to the Ravens. Jamal Adams would provide just that, the six-foot 214-pound man provides the Chargers with a menacing force in the secondary. For a Chargers defense that often breaks as the game goes on, this is a well-received addition.
Adams has received multiple honors consisting of several All-American honors, All-SEC honors, and was the team’s permanent captain. In his junior year at LSU Adams recorded 76 total tackles with one being a sack and 7.5 being for a loss. While he did only have one interception, his hard hitting ability would play a huge role over at strong safety.
While Hooker may be the popular consensus as Adams is more likely to be selected by the Bears, in this mock draft Adams fell to seventh overall and the Chargers snagged him. Let’s hope that the Chargers get either safety regardless.
