The latest Lakers news focuses on point guard Tyler Ennis, who seems to want to be on the Lakers longer.

Los Angeles is having two types of seasons. On the one hand, the Clippers are fighting for playoff positioning. Then, on the other, the Lakers can’t seem to lose when they need to.

One major move from this season came when the latter traded Marcelo Huertas to the Rockets. In exchange for Huertas, the Lakers got Tyler Ennis. Since coming to Los Angeles, Ennis has displayed a wide variety of skills.

He can score, pass, and be efficient — but is he in the team’s future?

If Tyler Ennis has anything to say about it, he’d like to stay put.

Mark Medina of The Orange County Register spoke with Ennis on upcoming free agency.

Per OC Register:

"“Anytime you go through the journey I’ve been through so far in the league and then have an opportunity to play and have people welcome me with open arms, that’s something you want to stay with,” Ennis said. “Obviously there’s a lot going on, but if the opportunity to stay is there, they’ll definitely be at the top of the list.”"

Another thing that the Lakers have to keep in mind is the draft. This summer, we’ll see which direction the team is really heading. With the young core that they have, a facilitating point guard might be at the top of their list.

Knowing that, their first priority isn’t going to be re-signing Ennis. He sees that, though, and it’s clear through his conversation with Medina that he knows it’s not for sure.

It’ll be ultimately decided by the new president and GM, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka. Now that the ball is in their court, making a decision on Ennis won’t necessarily be easy.
