No, the Chargers did not select the WWE wrestler Xavier Woods in the fifth round of this mock draft, they selected the safety coming out of Louisana Tech. The Chargers are in need of safeties, and while drafting Woods in the fifth round will not make a huge impact, it will add depth to the position and give the Chargers a decent playmaker.

While Xavier Woods needs a long way to go to make the starting unit for the Chargers, he would have a legitimate chance of doing so and if anything would add much needed depth into the Chargers secondary. If Woods could adapt an NFL mindset and maximize his great athletic potential and make a serious push for the starting squad.

In 13 games for Louisiana Tech last season the senior Woods managed to intercept five passes, force one fumble, and register 84 total tackles – three of which were sacks. All of this was produced purely with ahleticism, as Woods has shown the inconsistency in decision making in the back field.

Overall, this would be a good fifth round selection for the Chargers. The drop off from the top two safeties in the draft is huge, and if the Chargers cannot land Hooker nor Adams they shouldn’t waste a higher pick on a sefty. Instead, they should hold themselves over for now with the athletic Xavier Woods, biding their time for another great safety.
