Western Conference – First Round

(1) Golden State vs. (8) Portland

Lots of fire power right off the bat. It was down to either the Trail Blazers or Nuggets for the final spot, and now we know that Damian Lillard and company are in the mix. Last year’s clash of these two teams went towards the Warriors rather quickly. In order for things not to end in five games again, the Trail Blazers will have to find a way to beat the Warriors at their own game from deep.

Prediction: Warriors win in six

(2) San Antonio vs. (7) Memphis

These two teams played each other last year in the first round. The Spurs swept the Grizzlies in that duel, but things won’t be as easy for San Antonio this time around. Memphis plays a scrappy style of basketball. If the Spurs are off beat, even by the slightest of margins, the Grizzlies will jump on that opportunity and try to take down a juggernaut.

Prediction: Spurs win in six

(3) Houston vs (6) Oklahoma City

This series will probably be my personal favorite and possibly fan favorite. Not only will the top two MVP candidates be going head to head, but it’ll be a chance for solo star Russell Westbrook to bring OKC closer to another playoff battle with Golden State. It’ll feature the triple double king versus a newly acquainted point guard. This will be high-scoring throughout, but the Thunder have what it takes to pull off the upset.

Prediction: Thunder win in seven

(4) Los Angeles vs. (5) Utah

It’s that time of year that the Clippers hate, but hopefully will love sooner than later. Whether it be injuries, poor play, or some sort of hardwood curse, they are primed for an upset in round one. After barely missing out on the playoffs a year ago, the Jazz are the dark horse that the Clippers don’t want to have to stare down right away.

Prediction: Jazz win in seven
