Here, the Hornets may want to sacrifice two years of Kemba Walker’s service in pursuit of not only a star in this year’s draft but a star via free agency. Kemba Walker is a great player and one of the best in the league, but Michael Jordan is likely seeking that superstar – the Kevin Durant’s, Blake Griffin’s and Steph Curry’s of the world.

Hey, it may not be a coincidence that the Hornets deal their starting point guard in the same off-season that Steph Curry, a Hornets fan growing up, is an unrestricted free agent. This would not only cap space but floor room for Curry, and could give the Hornets a young star to play alongside.

Anyways, back on the Lakers side of things, this would essentially be the Lakers passing on the risk of any sort of draft bust and bringing in an established point guard. With only two years left on his contract, the Lakers would be sacrificing their pick in hopes that the prospect of playing alongside Kemba Walker could lure in a guy like Gordon Hayward.

Plus, the Lakers would still have the Rockets first round selection and a second round selection in this year’s draft. They could easily draft impact guys in needed areas while maintaining depth in the back court. They already would have Jordan Clarkson, Kemba Walker, and D’Angelo Russell and could potentially add a sharp shooter in Josh Hart.

Overall, Kemba’s 23.2 points and 5.5 assists per game would be very welcomed in Los Angeles. While a guy like Lonzo Ball eventually could hit those numbers, this would put the Lakers in win-now mode.
