Rams: Ranking the Last Seven First Round Picks Heading into the 2017 NFL Draft

6. Jared Goff – 1st Overall 2016

While this may seem contradicting because just one slide ago I was mentioning that Jared Goff was not a bust, he still is the second worst of the last seven first round picks for the Rams. It is not to say Goff is a bad player, instead, he simply has not proven himself at the NFL level. Don’t worry Rams fans, he still has a lot of time to turn this ship around.

Sitting behind mediocre Case Keenum for half the season definitely hurt Goff’s status. I understand not wanting to rush a quarterback in the league, and it has worked before with the likes of Phillip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers, but you don’t sit the number one overall pick behind Case Keenum. By the time Goff did get playing time the season was practically over for the Rams.

Coming into a broken system is hard, especially for a quarterback, and it is easy to see why a rookie would struggle. Quarterbacks, more than any other position, need quality coaching to prepare for the NFL level. Look at every great quarterback and there is a great coach behind him, Goff did not have that last season.

Overall, the numbers were not terrible for Goff but certainly were not what Rams fans had expected. In seven game started the rookie threw five touchdowns and seven interceptions, amounting to 1089 yards. With a quarterback rating of 22.2, it is safe to say Goff was not great. However, he has plenty of time to work his way up this list.
