Rams: Ranking the Last Seven First Round Picks Heading into the 2017 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
2. Alec Ogletree – 30th Overall 2013
Being a 30th overall selection, the Rams got an absolute steal in linebacker Alec Ogletree. Ogletree has played great every year he has been a pro, and if it wasn’t for an injury in 2015, Ogletree would not have missed a single game for the Rams. While healthy, Ogletree has been a defensive menace for the Rams and has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing recent history.
The stats that Ogletree has produced have been nothing short of fantastic. All three full seasons that Ogletree has played he has registered over 100 tackles in. Ogletree had 117 tackles in 2013, 111 in 2014, and 136 in 2016. Add in his ten forced fumbles between his first two seasons and his five career interceptions and Ogletree has been one of the best players at the linebacker position.
Heck, Ogletree was seventh overall in tackles last season and in his rookie campaign was third overall in forced fumbles. The hard-hitting linebacker took no time adjusting to the quality of play at the NFL level and has been great ever since. It is a shame and quite frankly is a robbery that Ogletree has not had at least one pro bowl selection.
As great as Ogletree is though, there is one first round selection that has played better than him. It is quite obvious who that man is, as you likely knew before even opening this article.
