The Lakers are going to need a dependable veteran

So as you know, the Lakers tried an experiment with Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng. Their thought process into signing both veterans to big deals was only good with their intentions.

It was meant to give the young core someone that they could look up to. Whether that was in the locker room, on the floor, or even off of it.

Instead, they’re stuck paying dead money to players they shut down before the season was over.

Knowing what the young core could be capable of next season in addition to their possible lottery pick, Anthony could be that go to guy. After playing in a place like New York, Anthony has a taste of what it’s like to play in a top sports city.

Fans would have a positive reaction to his veteran presence as well. It was pretty obvious that there was a lack of excitement when Los Angeles signed Mozgov and Deng. Seeing how things panned out in the regular season only proves the fans right.

If the front office and coaching staff are expecting more of their young core every year, especially D’Angelo Russell and Brandon Ingram, then a top veteran should be a top priority.

Otherwise, the Lakers risk taking a step in the wrong direction.
