If anybody could get the most out of Yasiel Puig it would be Cubs manager Joe Maddon. The Cubs outfield is a bit thinner this season with the departure of Dexter Fowler, and although Jason Heyward has had a resurgence the team still needs a right-handed bat. Because of this, the Cubs may overpay for a talent like Puig, and still leave the Dodgers in a good situation.

If this deal were to occur, like with the previous deal, we would likely see the emergence of Cody Bellinger to smash baseball’s out of Chavez Ravine. Alongside Bellinger the Dodgers would also  bring in outfielder Matt Szczur. Szczur has not seen much time with the Cubs, but put into a utility role with the Doders Szczur could be a good top of the order option against left-handed pitching.

Along with Szczur though we see the Cubs send pitching prospect Oscar De La Cruz. If the Cubs were to include De La Cruz the Dodgers would need to send a left-handed bullpen arm such as Adam Liberatore, but it would more than be worth it. De La Cruz is the Cubs fifth ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and has immense potential.

Signing out of the Dominican Republic back in 2014, the six-foot-four 22-year-old has nasty stuff and could be ready for the big leagues as soon as the end of next season. Andrew Friedman loves to bolster his farm, especially with pitching prospects, and if the Cubs were willing to overpay for Puig the Dodgers should have no questions about the deal.
