In the first deal for Luol Deng, we see a straight swap between to veteran players that are underperforming. While the Lakers are not getting anything great in this deal, and it may not entice you Lakers fans, it does hold a very specific purpose. Because of the contracts of both men, this deal would be a good deal for the Lakers.

The Lakers would owe Teletovic around $5 million less than they owe Luol Deng on his contract. While it may not seem as that big of an impact, Teletovic also is a free agent sooner than Deng. Deng is locked down for another three seasons of being overpaid, the Lakers would only have to pay Teletovic two more years, freeing up their cap space for a potential Russell Westbrook in the future.

Heck, the Lakers could trade for Teletovic and cut him almost instantly. If the Lakers do not think that his services are necessary they could simply eat the contract money and use that roster spot for somebody they think is more productive.

Teletovic has shown the ability to play good basketball, as he put together a decent 2015 that inked him this big contract. In 2015, Teletovic 12.2 points and 3.2 rebounds, not great numbers, but not bad either. However, reduced playing time in 2016-17 has diminished his numbers, and his value as well.

However, the selling point for this deal is the contracts involved, which makes this deal a win for the Los Angeles Lakers.
