Dodgers Rumors: Potential Trade Packages for Adrian Gonzalez
By Jason Reed
Practically identical to the deal with Seattle, the Dodgers here are trading Adrian Gonzalez’ services for an infielder that dominates left-handers and a pitching prospect. While the popular consensus amongst fans may be to not deal Gonzalez for this, it would give the Dodgers a much-needed dynamic that they are currently lacking.
The good thing about Prado is that he can play practically anywhere on the field. While he may not be the best at any spot, he has played third, first, second, and left field quite frequently. He has also seen some time at shortstop and right field, showing that he is able to adjust to a new position.
Giving the Dodgers a guy that can play every day at a different spot is extremely beneficial, especially considering he can smash left-handed pitching. Last season Prado batted .424 against left-handed pitching, which only adds to his lifetime .310 average against south paws. That is exactly what the Dodgers need to spark their offense.
With the Marlins top third base prospect seemingly big league ready, it may entice them to move Prado especially because Justin Bour has not been good at first base.
Add in left-handed pitching prospect Yarlin Garcia, who is the Marlins fourth best prospect, and this deal is great for the Dodgers. Garcia has the ceiling of perhaps a middle of the rotation arm, but he is ready for the big leagues now and could spark either the rotation or the bullpen – which is much-needed.
