In this deal we see the Lakers exchange two sizable contracts to another struggling team, the Phoenix Suns, in exchange for their two sizable contracts. On the surface, this deal seems pointless, but at the least, it would accomplish some things.

First of all, it would give the Lakers and improvement in terms of talent in both departments. While they are not acquiring anyone that will blow you away, both Tyson Chandler and Jared Dudley are improvements from Mozgov and Brewer. Sure, they are giving up a first round pick, but if they land their own pick they may not even need that selection.

Tyson Chandler, last season, averaged 8.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game. He may be old, but he is showing he can still contribute at a decent enough level. Dudley may have only averaged 6.8 points per game, but that is still a significant improvement from Corey Brewer who did virtually nothing on the Lakers.

Add in the fact that the Lakers would not be locked down for as long with these two and it seems like the lesser of two evils between them and Mozgov. Sure, this deal may not be the best in terms of improvement and may not be that big of a difference of contracts, but it is still an improvement from Mozgov and Brewer.
