The first deal of this slide show is a blockbuster, included the long rumored trade option of Jose Quintana along with the Dodgers’ best pitching prospect in Yadier Alvarez. While some Dodger fans right off the bat will dismiss this trade due to Alvarez’ promise, let me explain.

Jose Quintana may be one of the most underrated pitchers in all of baseball. There is not an ounce of doubt in my mind regarding whether or not Alvarez is worth Quintana’s talents. Alvarez, who is the 45th overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, certainly has promise for the future. However, the best chance for the team to win it all is now – and they must pull the trigger.

Quintana has been fantastic in his last three seasons behind Chris Sale. Although the record has never been great because of the offense behind him, Quintana shows consistency ranging from a 3.20 ERA to a 3.36 ERA. Sure, 2017 has not gotten off on the right foot for Quintana. However, his most recent performance included six innings tossed with only one earned run allowed, the Dodgers need that additional arm behind Kershaw.

Joc Pederson would serve as the face of a young rebuilding team in Chicago. Pederson is young himself, and would serve as the veteran of the team in only his third season. This would give the White Sox an established MLB talent that fits perfectly into their young core, and would give the Dodgers a much-needed arm in the rotation.
