Budda Baker – Safety, Washington

Had it not been for his size we may have seen Budda Baker up there with the likes of Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker and perhaps even ahead of them. Undersized at five-foot-ten, Baker’s Achilles’ Heel at the NFL level is indeed his size. However, with the talent that he possesses and the immensely high ceiling, he could be an absolute steal in the second round.

Baker was graded as the fourth best safety behind first round picks Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, and Jabrill Peppers. That is not to say that Baker cannot bring a lot to the table, as if we look at his combine it is obvious he has immense potential. Running a 4.45 40-yard dash it is apparent he is quick. Add in his 32.5 vertical and he could make up for his lacking size.

Sure, he may be undersized and that could leave question marks around him, but this is the Chargers we are talking about. Look back at the 2007 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Chargers selected five-foot-eleven Eric Weddle with their second round pick, which was only two picks higher than this year.

I think it is safe to say that the Weddle selection worked out as well. Weddle was often regarded as undersized as well, and he turned his natural athleticism into two All-Pro inclusions. The Chargers could strike lightning twice with another safety selection in the second round ten years later, and it may be what they end up doing.
