Darren Collison

Should the Lakers go ahead and draft Lonzo Ball it would make a big transition in the organization. D’Angelo Russell would make the permanent move to shooting guard, also relieving Jordan Clarkson as the starting point guard. While Clarkson could back up Ball at the point, he is more naturally suited for the shooting guard position.

With Nick Young most likely out the door, this would leave David Nwaba as the only backup shooting guard. It then makes sense to move Clarkson over to his more natural position, and bring in a potential free agent to back up Lonzo Ball. A great option for the Lakers would be Darren Collison.

Collison is not the most high-profile name but did put up good numbers for the Sacramento Kings last season. In 30.5 minutes a game Collison averaged 13.2 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.0 steal per game.

While they are not the most dynamic numbers for a starting caliber guard, they are still impressive nonetheless. Having Collison and Clarkson as the Lakers bench options in the backcourt would give the team immense depth they did not have before. Ball would bring the all-around play in the starting unit, and Collison could bring a much-needed scoring option alongside Clarkson off the bench.

With Spotrac estimating that Collison’s annual worth is only five million dollars, this seems like an absolute steal for the Lakers front office.
