John Johnson – Safety, Boston College

Finally moving away from the offensive side the of the ball, the Rams here added depth to their roster with the selection of safety John Johnson. Johnson, who may not be a household name now, has the potential to be one in the future. While we may not see him make much of an impact early, his athleticism alone holds promise.

When discussing Johnson’s combine, an NFC secondary coach said the following:

"“He’s really caught my eye out here. Had to go look him up with one of our scouts to find out more about the kid. Way more athletic than a lot of the safeties you see out at this game.”"

That NFC secondary coach could have been a Rams secondary coach, hence the third round selection. Johnson is extremely athletic, with a 37.0-inch vertical jump, 6.72-second cone drill, 4.18-second 20-yard shuttle Johnson holds explosiveness to attack the football.

Johnson’s senior year at Boston College saw him register 77 total sacks with three interceptions. That is a promising stat line from a safety. A bonus point about Johnson as well is that he has the flexibility to play anywhere in the secondary, which will be great as the Rams have several secondary players that will be unrestricted free agents next year.

Overall, we may only see Johnson on the field in the case of injury, or in a secondary heavy package. He may turn some heads in the special teams unit, but his first year will serve mostly as a learning experience.

2017-18 Stats Prediction: 15 tackles, 0 interceptions, 0 sacks
