The latest Lakers rumors addresses how the Clippers can be the one thing keeping them from Paul George.

A hot trade and free agency topic involves Paul George of the Pacers and the Los Angeles Lakers. George has been visibly and vocally frustrated with Indiana, while reportedly not holding back on wanting to play in LA.

Rumor has it that the Lakers are a primary target of his in free agency. This, of course, assumes he’s not traded before the end of next season when that applies.

If Paul George were to be on the Lakers, Magic Johnson would get his chance to utilize a top talent. Before becoming team president, it was clear that one of Johnson’s prerogatives was getting the Lakers a big name.

Depending on how things shake out for the Clippers in the off-season, however, might throw a wrench in all of that.

Blake Griffin’s playoff ending toe injury followed by concern of other key core members leaving when their deals expire means a blow up is coming soon. Not being able to win a championship with the talent they have in place has demonstrated that its time for a change.

And that goes for the coaching staff as much as the players.

Additionally, attracting a guy like Paul George would be a saving move by the Clippers. If they were to agree to acquire him before Blake Griffin decides where he’ll play, it’ll be huge.

Considering the fact that they’re in the middle of trying to compete for a title, it’d be bizarre to watch them let their stars walk. While that’s still an option, a rebuild isn’t what most, if any, Clippers fans want right now.
