New Orleans Pelicans

Despite having arguably the two best big men in the league, Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins, the Pelicans failed to have much success. The team finished 34-48, failing to capitalize on their stark advantage over the league in the front court. This has caused question marks to rise around head coach Alvin Gentry, and quite frankly, they are justified.

While I do not personally think that Gentry may get fired, I do think the Pelicans should be shopping for a new head coach. Gentry has actually served as Doc Rivers assistant head coach in Los Angeles and could find a similar role in New Orleans. While chances are they could not convince him to step down, this should not stop them from pursuing Rivers.

If the organization can get Gentry to take a reduced role that would be great, if not, they will not be hurt by his departure. Despite coaching the Golden State Warriors, Gentry seemingly cannot handle the duo of superstars in Davis and Cousins. Having coached huge ego players before, Rivers could be the answer to the Pelicans problems.

Especially with Cousins being a free agent after this year, the Pelicans need to bring in someone to make this equation work and convince Cousins to make New Orleans his permanent home. A star caliber coach like Doc Rivers would be the perfect acquisition for the Pelicans, and would make the team playoff contenders once more.
