2. Brandon McCarthy

April Stats: 3-0, 29.0 IP, 3.10 ERA, 25 K’s

Brandon McCarthy has been the biggest surprise for the Dodgers so far this month and without him and not be over .500. Being the fourth arm in the Dodgers rotation to start the year we all expected McCarthy to do decent, however, his biggest purpose was to eat innings at the back of the rotation.

Now, McCarthy has performed better than everyone on the Dodgers, except the best pitcher on the planet, and is looking to continue this resurgence into May. McCarthy’s Dodger career had not been very kind to him, and now, the patience from McCarthy himself and us the fans seems to be paying off.

After signing McCarthy to a four-year, $48 million contract heading into 2015, we all had high hopes for the tall right-hander. After a successful 2014 that saw him pitch to a 2.89 in the American League, many assumed McCarthy would thrive in the pitcher-friendly confines of Chavez Ravine.

The problem is McCarthy, like many other Dodgers, battled various injuries. Before this year McCarthy had only made 13 starts in two years with the Dodgers. None of which were memorable, and that is showcased by his above 5.00 ERA in that span.

However, now healthy, McCarthy is starting to pay the Dodgers their dividends for signing him several years ago. Let’s hope the six-foot-seven pitcher can stay healthy because right now, the team needs all the help they can get.
