This deal would have one goal in mind: give the Clippers more depth. That is something the team seemingly lacks as if one star goes down the entire team crumbles. Here, the team is taking on another big center contract in Steven Adams, but they are also adding a first round pick to their disposal. The combination of both Adams and a pick would not leave the Clippers missing Jordan.

While Steven Adams is not the same player that DeAndre Jordan is, he definitely is not a chip off the block either. Last season Adams averaged 11.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game in 29.9 minutes played. While those stats don’t quite average up to Jordan’s, Adams is only 23 years of age and is only going to get better.

Add in the fact that Adams is locked down for at least four more seasons and this seems like a better deal for the Clippers. It would give Russell Westbrook the star he needs to play alongside and would give the Clippers somebody who is great now and will only get better. Add in a late first round pick, which would be used to add even more depth, and this seems great.

This deal may be done to convince both Paul and Griffin that the Clippers do in fact have the future in mind, and want to surround the duo with as much talent as they can. If they have to sacrifice one year of DeAndre Jordan to do so, that is not a bad trade-off.
