Rams Rumors: New free agent targets after the 2017 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
Sebastian Vollmer – RT
The Rams have already added depth to their line, bringing in All-Pro left tackle Andrew Whitworth. Improvements should not stop there, however, as the Rams should be very intent and further bulking up their line to protect their future franchise player. The team failed to do so in the NFL Draft, so they must turn to the free agency market.
Vollmer, when healthy, is an extremely gifted tackle and would give the Rams the veteran leadership they so desperately need. In his time with the Patriots Vollmer, of course, has known what it is like to succeed. Being a Super Bowl champ means a lot in this league, and bringing in that kind of wisdom to a young core would be huge.
Granted, Vollmer did miss all of last season due to injury, prompting the Patriots to release him. However, a healthy Vollmer would be enormous for the Rams. I should mention that there is a chance that Vollmer may not see the football field again, but the second that the team gets the green light they should pull the trigger.
Of course, I am not saying that the Rams should sign Vollmer with question marks still circling around him. However, if Vollmer is cleared by doctors and can hit the football field once more we may see him in Los Angeles. This would be a practical, cheap option that can make a huge impact.
