James Johnson

Not all of their free agency acquisitions have to be older veterans, younger guys, or potential stars. Sometimes, it’s okay to go after players that had to prove themselves elsewhere to be worth something now.

One of those guys played for the Miami Heat last season, and his name is James Johnson.

Johnson is no stranger to moving, as in his seven years playing in the NBA, he’s been with five different teams. After stints in Toronto, Chicago, Sacramento, Memphis, and Miami, Los Angeles wouldn’t be such a bad place for him.

Two years ago, he wasn’t doing much in the league. He was averaging just five points per game with the Toronto Raptors and it didn’t feel like his career was going to have that much of an impact.

Then, with Miami, Johnson erupted. His stat line last season was 12.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists — all career highs.

Knowing that he’s doing what he can with his upside, the Lakers would be silly not to try and get him on their team.
