Rams Rumors: Five bold predictions for the 2017-18 season
By Jason Reed
5. Josh Reynolds will become a star
For the second straight year, the focus of the Rams draft was centered around quarterback Jared Goff. Last season, the Rams made a questionable trade to move up to the number one overall pick (don’t worry Rams fans, the Bears made this deal look better), and now this season the focus was to surround Jared Goff with as many pieces as they can.
This resulted in a draft where the Rams selected four skill players, two receivers, a tight end, and a full back. First, the Rams took tight end Gerald Everett in the second round, which has received mix response. Then, the team turned to Cooper Kupp in the third, which has widely been regarded as a good selection for the Rams as Kupp can be something special.
However, it was the Rams fourth round pick that stood out the most to me, and that was Texas A&M receiver Josh Reynolds. Reynolds was not a household name before the draft, heck, I’ll be honest I only knew his name and nothing else. However, after further research, it was apparent to me that Reynolds will be huge for this Rams team.
The Rams have a lot of quickness at the receiver position. The Rams receiving core is filled with quick guys that will thrive in short routes and in the slot. The team lacks that big-bodies, Vincent Jackson like receiver. That is exactly what six-foot-three receiver Reynolds is, while he may not burn any corners off the line, he will use his size to catch passes even when covered.
Reynolds stats in his senior year are evidence of this. Reynolds caught for 1039 yards, averaging 17 yards per catch with 12 touchdowns. We will be seeing the Goff-Reynolds connection a lot this year, which leads us into our next prediction.
